🪅 Have you heard of DiDi? (+ Exclusive Promo Code Inside!)

Hola Reader,

Can you believe it's the end of September? I feel like I say this at the end of every month but heading into October feels like a big deal every year.

I want to tell you about an important app you need when visiting Mexico but I have an exclusive Roamers bonus to share with you first.

But before all that, a couple of weeks ago I launched the Hidden Mexico Travel Facebook Group as a place for us all to share our favourite hidden gems and top tips about travelling Mexico. If you haven't already joined, you can join here!

Level8 Discount

If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen that it's my mum's birthday this week and I took her on a spa break to celebrate. This was also a great time to take my Level8 carry-on out for a spin.

Level8 gave me a suitcase of my choice to test and since I travel almost exclusively carry-on only, I picked this vintage style Level8 Freeloop Carry-On.

It does a fantastic job for short trips and soon I'll be taking it on a multi-week trip around Mexico to test it long term.

If you're looking for new luggage you can use my exclusive Roamers promocode "sheroamsabout10" for 10% off any Level8 luggage.

To learn more about what I like and don't like about this suitcase you can read my honest review.

Note: The suitcase was free but the opinions are always all mine.

Don't Forget DiDi

We've all heard of Uber, but have you heard of DiDi? I hadn't until I started travelling Mexico and now it's a key app in my Mexico toolkit.

Uber offers two main services, affordable on-demand rides by private drivers and super convenient food deliveries from restaurants, cafes, and more. And this is exactly what DiDi does!

Why Do I Need DiDi If I Already Have Uber?

In Mexico, more often than not where there's Uber there's DiDi and this means competitive pricing and better availability.

In a city like Mexico City with notorious traffic issues, it's important to check both apps before booking a ride. An Uber might be a 10 minute wait, but there could be a DiDi 2 minutes away ready to claim your ride.

Another thing to consider is that Uber operates with dynamic and surge pricing which means in Mexico it's often more expensive than DiDi.

DiDi also offers lots of intro and ongoing discounts, especially on food deliveries, and a lot of local restaurants and even street food spots are on this app ready to whip up whatever you're craving.

Many drivers also prefer DiDi over Uber because they take a much smaller cut of the fare meaning more money goes into the pockets of the local Mexican drivers. This also contributes to why in some cities like Querétaro, there are far more DiDis on the road at any given time compared to Ubers.

And finally, DiDi makes it easy to opt to pay by cash or load a credit card, so if you don't want to put your credit card information into another app you don't have to.

Have you heard of DiDi? Hit reply and let me know if you're going to try it.

Hasta luego,

-Ashlea

Hola Reader, It's been a couple of weeks since it all kicked off in Mexico and I've heard from some people wondering if it's still a safe place to visit. So, I spoke to some of my friends and contacts across Mexico to get "boots on the ground" insight into the current safety level and reviewed what news sources are saying. The short answer is, Mexico is safe to visit but I can understand the hesitation. First, let's go over what happened and then we'll get into what the reality is on the...

Hola Reader, If you've read anything I've written you probably know that I am a huge fan of the Mexico bus system and I even wrote a whole Mexico Bus Guide to help people see this service for what it is and embrace it as a way of getting around Mexico. So when I had to get from Cozumel in Quintana Roo to Mérida in Yucatán I knew I was going to skip the long wait at the airport and opt for a bus. This week I'm going to tell you how to make this journey, what the ferry is like, the local...

Hola Reader, It's hard to believe January is coming to an end already but here we are! Last time I popped up in your inbox I was telling you all about my trip to Cozumel and I received some interesting reactions to that! So this time, I'm going to share what some people thought and a few more details about my trip and then next week I'll share my interstate travel experience from Cozumel to Mérida including what happened when I hit a surprise federal police checkpoint on my way into Yucatán....
